สถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์สำหรับฟิสิกส์ทฤษฎีและจักรวาลวิทยา เป็นระบบวัฒนธรรมทางวิชาการที่ดำเนินการใน หน่วยวิจัยฟิสิกส์รากฐานและจักรวาลวิทยา ของ ภาควิชาฟิสิกส์แห่งมหาวิทยาลัยนเรศวร

สถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์สำหรับฟิสิกส์ทฤษฎีและจักรวาลวิทยา จึงถือเป็นอาศรมวิชา อาศรมวิจัย และสภาการศึกษาซึ่งเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยขนาดเล็กที่สุดในโลกที่ดำเนินกิจการโดยอิสระ โดยปราศจากการแทรกแซงจากนโยบายการศึกษาภายนอก สถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ ไม่อาจให้การศึกษาได้แบบเต็มรูปแบบ หากแต่ให้การศึกษาในลักษณะเสริมแก่นิสิตของมหาวิทยาลัยนเรศวรในลักษณะให้คุณวุฒิเพิ่มเติม และให้การศึกษาแก่นักศึกษาจากมหาวิทยาลัยอื่นๆในลักษณะการให้เป็นนักศึกษาอาคันตุกะในหลักสูตรวุฒิบัตรและประกาศนียบัตร

สถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ ไม่ยุ่งเกี่ยวกับประเด็นใดๆทางการเมือง การดำรงอยู่และคุณวุฒิทางวิชาการอันเข้มงวดของสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ ไม่ได้รับการรับรองโดยกฎหมายหรือองค์กรของรัฐใดๆ หากแต่ได้รับเกียรติและการยอมรับอย่างกว้างขวางจากประชาคมฟิสิกส์ทั่วประเทศ

กิจการด้านการศึกษาทั้งหมดดำเนินการโดยการใช้ทุนทรัพย์ส่วนตัวและการอาสาสมัครจากคณาจารย์ของสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ

ในปี พ.ศ. 2552 หน่วยวิจัยฟิสิกส์รากฐานและจักรวาลวิทยา ได้รับเลือกให้เป็นที่ตั้งของ ห้องปฏิบัติการวิจัยจักรวาลวิทยา ใน ศูนย์วิจัยทางฟิสิกส์คำนวณและทฤษฎี ภายใต้ ศูนย์ความเป็นเลิศด้านฟิสิกส์แห่งชาติของ สกอ.

สถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯไม่อาจถูกล้มล้างได้ เพราะไม่เคยได้รับการจัดตั้งอย่างเป็นทางการแต่แรก การดำเนินการอย่างเป็นกิจจะลักษณะของสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯจะดำรงอยู่หรือไม่นั้นไม่ขึ้นกับอำนาจใดๆ ภายนอกหากแต่ขึ้นอยู่กับเหล่าสมาชิกของสถาบันฯเองเท่านั้น

What We Think · Our Fundamental Paradigm

What lies in the background is that Thailand’s physics research and education have been in crisis.

We have been aware of these problems since 1996—when we all were undergraduate students.

Then to help solving the problem, we believe in top-down development of physics research and academic, i.e., our keys are

  • Research Capability (We must be good at what we are doing before helping others.)

Realising that our hands are small, in order to help the country to solve these problems, up to our limitation of resources, we see that what we can effectively do is at small scale, but we must ensure that the result is effective and sustainable.

Our missions are then to do

  • Research in theoretical physics, cosmology and other related applied mathematics
  • Education improvement of physics, cosmology, and mathematical sciences
  • Public awareness of sciences

In order to succeed the strategies are

  • Freedom in administration without outside political intervention, i.e. the Tah Poe Academia Institute is independent
  • To acquire freedom, TPTP needs to stand on its own feet financially.
  • Most TPTP activities are run voluntarily, economically and with low-cost. This is, however, excellent at small scale.
  • The members agree to share the same dream.

Academy of Physics, Cosmology and Applied Mathematics

The TPTP Academic Council (สภาการศึกษาท่าโพธิ์) is an academic body that awards TPTP unofficial academic qualifications. This is the intrinsic idea of the name Academia Institute. The academic awards are

  • S.TP [Scholar of the Tah Poe Academia Institute - คุณวุฒิปรัชญากรแห่งสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ]
  • L.TP. [Licentiate of the Tah Poe Academia Institute - คุณวุฒินักวิชาแห่งสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ] (formerly called TP.L.)
  • Grad.TP. [Graduate of the Tah Poe Academia Institute - คุณวุฒิบัณฑิตแห่งสถาบันสำนักเรียนท่าโพธิ์ฯ] (formerly called TP.G.)
  • TP.D. [The Tah Poe Diploma - วุฒิบัตรท่าโพธิ์] (3 summers training program for visiting students)
  • TP.C. [The Tah Poe Certificate - ประกาศนียบัตรท่าโพธิ์] (25-hour short courses with rigourous examination—formerly called TP.Cert.)

The TPTP qualifications are conferred upon satisfying rigourous standard. These qualifications are unofficial but highly regarded and recognized among physics community in Thailand. The dissertations are written and defended in English. Our courses are run throughout the year following our own annual academic calendar. We have 5 academic terms named after physicists who contributed to corner stones of physics.

Research

  • Cosmology: Theoretical, Relativistic and Phenomenological
  • Quantum Field Theory: Schwinger Formulation
  • Application of Theoretical Methods in Physics to Signal Processing
  • In the future: Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics

Seminars

The Tah Poe Seminars have been running for 7 years, 15 series. Traditionally, the seminars are given in English at research level (from the 7th series). The seminars are not funded. The Tah Poe Seminars are the oldest seminar series in Naresuan University.

Training Schools/Conferences in Physics

Several International Scientific Meetings (research level) originated by the TPTP, e.g.

  • Short Course on Dark Energy, Cosmological Perturbation, and Inflation
    hosted by NU (4 days in 2005)
  • The Thai School on Cosmology I, II, III:
    hosted by NU (10 days in 2002), NU (10 days in 2003), KKU (10 days in 2004);
    The fourth one is to be hosted by TPTP in March 2010.
  • The Thai Physics and the Universe Symposium I, II, III:
    hosted by NU (1 day meeting in 2003), KKU (1 day meeting in 2004), NU (1 day meeting in 2005)
  • The 4th SIAM GR⊕HEP⊕Cosmo Symposium:
    hosted jointly by the TPTP, IRDA (NU), and the National Astronomical research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) during 26–28 July 2009 at Rattana Park Hotel and Science Building, Naresuan University

Scientific Culture Public Forum: 1-2 times a year

Education Improvement

TPTP aims to support and assist only one district high school throughout a period of one year by launching TPTP Physics Studies Stations - สถานีฟิสิกส์ศึกษา at the site where TPTP staff and M.S. students will be visiting 1-2 times a month. Young teachers from schools will be trained throughout the period of one year. A physics society of students and physics camps will also be organised and set up at the on-site station. We hope to effectively and sustainably lift up physics standards of at least 10 rural schools within the period of 10 years.

What We Are · Status

Unofficial Academic and Research Institution = The Academia Institute

  • Its status is not official but the target, action, and faith are clear and in action.
  • It is neither legal nor illegal, so that uninstallation is not possible, since it has never been installed in the first place.
  • It is originated by 3 undergraduate physics and engineering students at Chiang Mai (1994), formerly called the Students’ Forum for Theoretical Physics (SFTP, 1994), and afterwards, the Tah Poe Group of Theoretical Physics (TPTP, 1996). Full activity began in 2003 and the institute declared itself in January, 2006.
  • It is independent, governed by the Tah Poe Academic Council.
  • It is the tiniest university living within Naresuan University.
  • It is hosted by NU Department of Physics. Only the room, power, and water are provided by the department.
  • The research budget is from

    • Thailand Toray Science Foundation (TTSF)
    • Thailand Research Fund and Commission on Higher Education (TRF-CHE)
    • National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT)
    • National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT)
  • The Academia Running Fund is from
    • Membership fee
    • Income from organizing short courses and events
    • Donation from private sectors [We do need support from private sectors in order to run the TPTP.]

Every year the TPTP usually has the Academia Running Fund of approximately 24,000 THB/yr.
